Jessica is due to marry Scott Avis on 19 September 2024. “We chose a Thursday because we could still have the full weekend for extended celebrations and the venue was offering great mid-week” said Jessica.

“Scott and I both work at HMRC. We are both from Southport but moved to Nottingham with work. We first got together in 2012, when I was working in the local pub and Scott had just returned from travelling in Australia. Through mutual friends we started to spend more time together, until we finally got together on a night out after a charity function. In the morning, Scott had to run down the road in just his underwear to chase the taxi, and that began the longest (and only) one-night stand of my life!”

“During lockdown there was my 30^th, my stepdad's 40^th, and my mum's 50^th birthdays so we decided to have a massive family garden party in May 2022. There was a live band, caterers, an inflatable obstacle course, and lots of fun and games. My stepdad got on the microphone and pretended to start a speech, but in fact he was just setting Scott up for the big question. He ended up getting down on one knee and proposing in front of about 80 friends and family. I was several drinks down at this point so I don't remember too much of the day as a whole, but I do remember snatching the ring out of his hands and having to remember to actually give him an answer!”

“I’m finding the planning stressful! There's just so much to think about. I keep waking up in the middle of the night and adding things to my to-do list and list of questions for the venue. I'm lucky that the venue provides a lot of the decorations because I'm not handy or creative enough to get on the DIY wagon.”

“As we've only just booked the date, we haven't made any final decisions on anything as we want the vibe to match the venue. I have done plenty of research though, and have the nerdiest spreadsheet going with everything you could possibly think of included. I haven't even started trying on any dresses yet despite being engaged for over a year, but I have a shared photo album with my mum and my maid of honour to remember the ones I like.”
