Our menu is part of our package. We have a choice of starters, main course and desert but we only get to pick 1 of the options for each. How do we choose ??? Is anyone else in the same situation ??? And how do we keep everyone happy ??? And we also have to pick 5 items for a hot buffet for the evening reception. Why is nothing simple

We decided to go with what we liked as we realised we would never please everybody no matter what we did!
We were told we could have WHATEVER we liked even if it wasnt on the menu so we have gone with chicken as that seems to be a safe option as most people like it but not sure how to have it yet for the main!
The stater we were thinking either soup or a pate and our dessert is our wedding cake hehehe

We are getting married at 2 meaning our breakfast wont be until 5 so we didnt want another big meal but we still wanted to feed our evening guests so we are just having bacon rolls and mini chip cones for the reception but I would say if you have to pick five things pick two savory and two sweet then the 5th can be something you LOVE lol

We were getting a chocolate fountain ( my h2b is a big kid ) for the desert on the evening. plus our cake. so we were just going to pick all savoury things for the buffet as u get loads of different things with the fountain and we're having different flavoured cake tiers. We'll just pick what sound nicest and what we like lol. if they don't like it, there's a maccie d's not far away haha xx

Our venue is the same, plus a veggie option
The offer a tasting session though, we pay £17.95, go in on a sunday and get to try all options on the menu (smaller portions obviously) and then we are able to make a proper decision
Give them a call and see if they offer something like that for you to try.

Plus if you want xmas dinner, just ask, you've nothing to lose x

If we had to pick, we'd go with what the majority liked, because if I went with what I liked, more than half our guests wouldn't eat it and would go hungry; so a) waste of money and b) unhappy guests. But, I like things like steak cooked very rare (as in, barely cooked at all); whereas if you like something like chicken then obv that's not likely to cause many issues.

You won't ever please everyone; but IMO you should be aiming to please the majority, even if that means going for something that might not be your personal first choice.

Generally speaking, starters and desserts are easier to choose than main courses; as most people will eat typical starters and desserts, it's more things like meat which can be more 'controversial'.

We're having meals that most will like, we've got a choice of 2 so going for a beef dish and chicken dish, starters of soup and melon maybe (undecided) and for dessert one choc and one fruit option... I'm sure from that everyone will find something they like, if not they're too fussy. My dads friends going to a wedding at our venue soon and is ordering from the kids menu, if there's any major issues with our choices then our guests can order from that too x

We are lucky with our venue as we told them what we wanted and they gave us a price for the food. We are having Fish & Chips and our wedding cake is a 5tier cheesecake which they are dishing up for us as desert. Then Bacon butties in the evening.
We dont get married till 3pm so we should have plenty of food!

If Turkey or Pork are the options I would go with Turkey, most people eat Turkey and I would have suggested a chicken dish as some dont eat read meat so go for Turkey. Most places are pretty flexible so ask for Xmas dinner if thats what you would like. Dont ask dont get lol x

I personally didn't want to give a choice to guests, and the venue we picked doesn't give us the option anyway, we picked standard likeable food, with chicken liver pate to start, then roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, and dessert is a champagne mousse with fresh strawberries.

If you give your guests choice then makes it complicated seeing who is having what and then telling the venue and then the right people having the right meals on the day so one option for everyone is easy peasy.... everyone will eat a roast dinner and if they dont like the meat then should like some of the veg or spuds xx

we were given a choice of 3 differently priced menus, and each menu had 3 choices of each course on it. we can have the starter from the chepest menu, the main from another menu and the dessert from another if we wish, and they will create our menu from that, and price it accordingly. we know that the main is from the dearest menu and the starter and dessert are from the cheapest, so we know its going to be cheaper than the most expensive menu......if that makes sense? we know its going to cost less than the £55 menu cos its got cheaper starter and desserts.
that said.....we had 27 meals, to choose from but everyone has to have the same 3 courses.

    we chose
    stilton and spinach tartlett
fillet of beef with seasonal veg
    champagne sorbet
    a dessert trio...
coffee and mints with wedding cake

all for less than £55 pp

and there is a veggie option, but i dont think any of our guests are veggies.

One of our options for the main is Duck. Now me and the h2b LOVE duck but I've asked around and one of my friends said it was a risky choice. What do you guys think?

CB I think it could be risky, although if its your fave and you want it then go for it, I just think it's one that's a hit or a miss, I dont know many people that do eat duck x

At our venue we had the choice of 3 different dishes fror starters, mains and dessert....we chose what we both prefered, then had a complimentary meal to 'check' our choices :) We have also a few veggie alternatives, which i will let a veggie choose what they prefer. I included the menu in the invites and asked about dietry requirements and vegetarian options, ....so far we've had an RSVP from H2B cousin, but then she later spoke to h2b's Mum, saying she was allergic to nuts! why on earth would she not mention that in her RSVP ( or even ring me or mail me to tell me!)i don't know?!?!?! Then H2B's uncle spoke to H2B's mum saying he'd NEVER eaten chicken! for no particular reason at all....just never tried it!?? and then said his grandkids were "not chicken nuggety children....they are more fishfingery" !!! I MEAN REALLY!!! Poor H2B's mum....trying to relay these messages! I put all the info and my contact details in the RSVP envelope to make it super easy and still ppl manage to fluff it up!
The Uncle has even said he will pay for something else! how does that make me feel??? hmmmm. Like inviting the ungrateful wotsit to just the evening or telling him to bring a picnic! *sorry to hijack the thread.that all came out blllaaahhh!* xx

We've been really lucky I think. We were given a full menu list, 7 options for starters, main and dessert. We were told to pick 3 options from each one and then offer the 3 choices to our guests, then phone the reception venue with the amounts of each 3 options we want. We're being charged £25 pp.

    cb, thank you
we also thought about duck because we love it too. I think maybe people are saying its risky, not because theres anything wrong with duck, but maybe not many people have tried it? A lot of people dont try things because its not the norm....ahhh poor little duck!
I love rabbit and pheasant, but my kids would never even try it, and yet they say they dont like it? hows that?

one thing i dont like about my menu is that children under 12 go from the kids menu for £12 and kids under 2 are free.....thats a good price, and i only have 2 children coming, one is 10 and one is 1.5 yrs old, but they both have to have the same, and all the kids menu consists of is something with chips.....chicken nuggets, pizza, or fishfingers. followed by ice cream and jelly.
I dont want the kids at my wedding to have to eat this if they dont want chips, so i am asking for a smaller portion of what we have, but i bet its more than £12
