First time using the forum, we have now booked our venue for July 2016, seems a long time off but I know there is sooooo much to organise and plan. Very very excited but also nervous about not forgetting anything and not leaving things too late... So many questions, where to start! Look forward to hearing from any other brides in the same position :-)

hi MrsThomson2B, we are getting married 09/07/2016, we have seen a photographer today and likely to book that in the next week. Will try and get all other big things done as well sooner rather than later. Thanks all for the replies. Good luck with all the planning

Hi I'm new to this group too;-) We are planning to get married in 2016 also:-) Would like the 5th August as this was my nan and grandads wedding anniversary who managed to celebrate their golden wedding and is a special date to me. We are looking at a beach wedding in either Cyprus or Greece, don't know where to start as yet, looking at possible venues at the moment. Happy wedding planning;-) Zoe.x
Hi, me and the hubby to be are planning 30/07/2016.. Booked the church so far. Don't know if I'm coming or going to be honest :( need help
CommentAuthorKjs2016
Hi Chrissie, The church is a good start! I believe there is a checklist at the start of the forum discussions, which might help you. I've just started lists and although our wedding is quite a way off, time is moving so quickly already and I am pleased we have started early tbh. We have the venue, caterers, registrar and photographer booked so far. We also have a meeting with a florist and cake maker next month. For the entertainment we are hoping to have a band so will start looking properly soon. I like the idea of booking sooner rather than later so that we can pay deposits and then spread the remaining costs over the next 2 years and also those who are good are going to be pretty booked up in advance so don't want to be disappointed! I'm really excited and think it's so nice to have a day where you can plan exactly what the two of you want :-) Hi Zoe - anymore decisions made yet? Good luck, keep me posted on how you are getting on.x

Hi, I'm new to the forum and group too...
We're about to sign the contract and pay deposit for our venue (civil ceremony) and reception :-) Saturday 2nd July 2016!! Been engaged since September and feels like it's already taken ages to find the right venue. We always knew we'd marry in 2016 to give ourselves couple years to save and glad we did as it seems we're Mr and Mrs picky after seeing so many venues!!
Onto booking the next big thing photographer, then dress shopping :-) Good luck wedding planning x
CommentAuthorGemmaS890
July 21st 2016 for me. Started looking for venues for reception and have two to choose from.
CommentAuthorKjs2016
Welcome ClaireM2716, You sound as if you have been through similar things to us so far, we looked at so many venues.... We are now looking for bands :-) so excited and can't wait - heading for the 2 year mark!! I've accepted the friend request, look forward to sharing the next couple of years of experiences and panics ;-) K.x
CommentAuthorKjs2016
Welcome GemmaS890, Are you having a church wedding? Two venues to choose from, how many have you looked at? Have you set a time for making a decision or waiting on any other factors before deciding? We sat on our decision for a while - just to make sure we had got it right - to be honest we had looked at loads so knew what there was out there :-) K.x
CommentAuthorClaireM2716
Thanks K, look forward to sharing ideas and tips...my OH has already commented that I'm looking at something to do with the wedding every night! I think he's exaggerating but then again whilst the World Cup is on it's a good excuse! Good luck with the bands! My friend recommended here to me, a post on your wall as really good at her wedding, UK wide and you built up what you want in the band. Not sure if unfortunate (as OH wanted a band) or lucky as our package with venue includes a DJ so one less thing to look for and book ;-) Have you booked photographer/videographer yet? Wondering whether we need both?? C x
CommentAuthorGemmaS890
One venue is my local pub as I love the food there alot and I feel at home but the other is a hotel I know is nice inside due to having been to an engagement party there. Im not doing a church wedding but im having a nice amazing big dress if the altering is done well as its a tad big on me at the moment
CommentAuthorKjs2016
Hi Claire, thanks again for the post re: bands. I went through a phase of doing something wedding every night too but funnily enough for the past week or so I haven't had much opportunity! We've booked our photographer, met him at the wedding fayre at our venue so recommended and knows the set up. I hadn't really considered having a recording of the wedding until another bride mentioned it and said it was the best thing they ever did. She feels it really tells the story and can view back on the day, helps to avoid the post weddings blues! So now I am considering that as well. Something else to add to the budget :-( x
CommentAuthorKjs2016
GemmaS890 - I say go with where you feel most comfortable. Also consider accommodation, transport, is it easily accessible, difference in cost for what you get etc etc. it feels good once you have finally booked a venue - I thought that was hard enough..... Then the real planning starts lol! X

I'm new too! We're getting married 2016 and we have booked and paid deposits for all the big stuff, partly because we both knew where we wanted to get married so thought we may as well book it, partly so we know how much money we need to save! Also my sister, my mum and I are making almost everything so need plenty of time to craft!
CommentAuthorMrsThomson2B
The closer we get the more of us there is. I booked for July 2016 in June of last year. It doesn't take long to come round x

Hello ladies,
Last weekend we finally booked the venue for 30th July 2016.
It seems so far away yet i know time will fly by :-)

Hi Emmilou :) congratulations on your engagement and booking your date! Another 2016 bride :D
It's a good idea to get the 'bigger' things booked up and deposits paid for as early as you can. You don't want to miss out as they get booked up quickly and some people are even taking bookings for 2017 now. Also helps spread the cost.. and the stress! :)
Have a look on p1int3r3st, you will find lots of inspiration on there :) x

Thanks Flossie.
I've been on lots of sites and have a few ideas but go off them so quickly lol.
My H2B works away 3 weeks out 4 so I feel I can't talk to anyone about it cost it's so far off which is frustrating
I'm sure I'll choose something in time x

I found when you start booking things and making decision it all starts coming together and goes so fast!
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
Hi CarrieD26,
It's a mind field isn't it.....
I do get a wedding planner with the venue and she has been lovely. I feel like I want to do so much but just don't know what I'm supposed to do at this stage.
It's scary yet exciting
How far forward are you with your plans?

There's no rush, just spend a bit of time initially gathering ideas and working out what it is that you want/like.
For us, the most important things that we considered the 'bigger' things that we wanted to get booked asap were the photographer, DJ and harpist (as well as the venue and registrar, obviously lol). We have also arranged transport and have now booked a magician as well. We have just started to buy little bits and bobs for our favours and stuff like that - we are both agreed on exactly what it is that we want, so we feel we can start buying the decorative little bits now and storing them.
Holding off on the dress as don't want to choose something now and then regret it later on - also hoping to lose a little bit of weight before I choose 'the one'! Will start looking and trying on around April/May time next year.
Go to as many wedding fairs you can - you will get some new ideas and if you want to book any suppliers on the day you will usually get a little bit of discount. We got £100 off our magician for booking him on the day at the national wedding show x

So far we have booked the church, reception venue, dj, mobile bar and bought our wedding rings.
We have chosen our colours and theme, so like Flossie, we are picking up things to compliment with our theme to spread the cost and so we don't have to start from scratch when all the big stuff is organised. I am particularly loving charity shops at the minute!
I bought some foam roses in our colour scheme to see if I was able to make my own bouquets early on and have made my bridesmaids bouquets and ordered more of the same flowers and some ivy, other bits to make my own decorations to fit our theme. We have also started looking up recipies for exciting buffet foods we can prepare in advance for staff to get ready on the day.
I would personally think about venues first to fit your budget, because you might find your theme won't match your venue as we did! Once you have done that, it starts to come together. I found it so hard to see an entire picture of what I wanted, personally, so it just seemed like so much to think about all at once. It worked so much better doing it in stages and deciding the big stuff first.
I have started looking at dresses, with a completely open mind because I don't have the slightest idea what I want. I want to find the right styles and which details are most important for me in a dress with plenty of time still left to find "the one!"
Have you got any venues in mind? Do you know what kind of ceremony you would like?
CommentAuthorCarrieD26
Sorry, should have reread your original post. What sort of venue have you booked?
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
Our venue for both the ceremony and reception is a mansion with lots of grounds.... Its beautiful :-)
Like you had said Fossie, i have started getting a folder together with different ideas but im just not settling on anything at the mo.
You both sound like you know what you want and thats great..... Its still early dyas for me and i think in after christmas i will get a bit more focused.
The budget seems to be getting higher and higher lol....

Absolutely agreed! We had so much in mind to start with and the entire thing changed from castle with knights and fairy theme. H2b was even going to wear full armour! To a church wedding followed by village hall! We are certain about some things, but others are a work in progress. Our budget has also escalated several times and we have had to reign it in!
CommentAuthorEmmilou82
Thank you ladies.......
It's nice to talk to people who want to talk (if that makes sense)
I'm enjoying looking at other people's ideas and colours and getting a feel for what I might like. I must admit, the budget appears never ending at the minute and the initial shock of the venue quote, well that hasn't quite sunk in yet lol
Like I said previously, if we can just secure the major things for now then I'm sure the rest with fall into place nicely x
