Civil Ceremonies
In addition to marrying in church or a Register Office, you are also legally permitted to marry in any venue licensed for Civil Ceremonies.
You will still need to contact your local register office, or your respective registration offices if you live in different districts and obtain your Authority to Marry, which will remain valid for a year. Civil Ceremonies may not contain religious content of any sort but there is scope for you to customise your own vows.
There will be a fee for the registration of your marriage in addition to the fee your civil ceremony venue will charge you.
Licensed venues may include hotel accommodation which has the advantage of a ‘built-in’ reception venue with in-house catering, and other services such as accommodation the evening before or on your wedding night.
Unusual venues may include castles, film or TV sets, places of historical interest or country estates.
